Samantha (Sam) has resided within Treaty 8 Territory - the traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and traveling route to the Cree, Dene, Dane-zaa (Beaver), and Métis - for most of her life. Throughout her career, Sam has witnessed the enduring impact of colonial harm and is dedicated to dismantling oppressive colonial practices. She firmly believes in the importance of ongoing personal reflection on unearned privilege, challenging oppressive systems and structures, and actively participating in the process of truth and reconciliation.

Sam embarked on her social work journey right here in Fort McMurray, where she obtained her Diploma in Social Work from Keyano College. She went on to complete her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work (Clinical Trauma Informed Practice) through the University of Calgary. Throughout her career, Sam has supported children, youth, adults, and families within our community.

Sam values the power of collaboration and non-judgement in the therapeutic relationship and adapts therapy to meet each person’s unique needs. She practices through a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based lens, drawing from emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and solutions-focused therapy (SFT).

Sam offers in-person and virtual therapy services to children, teens, and adults throughout Fort McMurray and the greater Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
